Halloween Candy Bar Blondies

I realize the term “leftover Halloween candy” may be confusing to some. Strangely enough, there are people who have enough restraint not to shut down the candy-giving early and polish off the candy bowl in private. If you’re one of the few with that kind of will power, then you can put it to a little different use by baking some of those little candy bars into these blondies.

Traditionally, blondies are filled with nuts or chocolate chips. With your choice of candy bars, you can have those plus anything else you love. Just pick one candy bar or use a whole variety so every bite is different.

If you can’t wait until after Halloween, go ahead and fish out your favorites now and whip up a pan of these. Then, if there is any spare candy next week, you can make more!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 & 1/2 cups chopped candy bars (about 10-12 miniature candy bars)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Stir together melted butter and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla, and mix until well-blended.
  3. In a small bowl, toss chopped candy bars with about 1/4 cup flour. Set aside.
  4. Add remaining flour, baking powder, and salt to butter/sugar mixture. Stir just until combined. Stir in chopped candy bars.
  5. Transfer batter to prepared pan. Bake 28-32 minutes, or until a pick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan before cutting into bars.
