What You’ll Need

See the recipe card below for the full recipe, including ingredient quantities and full instructions.

  • Confectioners’ sugar – Also labeled as powdered sugar
  • Unsalted butter – Let this soften before mixing.
  • Cocoa powder – Use a good quality unsweetened natural cocoa powder.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Salt
  • Cream cheese – Use full-fat cream cheese that comes in blocks, not the whipped kind.
  • Milk – I prefer whole milk here, but any milk you have should work.
  • Mini chocolate chips – These are optional but highly recommended for extra chocolate flavor. See the variations section below for some other mix-in ideas.

How to Make Brownie Batter Dip

  • Start mixing. Beat the confectioners’ sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Mix in the cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt, followed by the cream cheese.
  • Finish mixing. Add the milk gradually until the dip is the desired consistency.
  • Add chocolate chips. Fold them gently into the dip, saving some for garnish if you like.
  • Serve. Place the dip in a serving bowl and serve with an assortment of dippers.

Tips for Success

  • Soften the butter and cream cheese. Let these come to room temperature so they’ll mix more smoothly and evenly.
  • Adjust the consistency. By varying the amount of milk you add, you can easily control the thickness of your dip. Keep in mind that your dip will also thicken a bit when chilled.
  • Have fun! This is such a fun dessert to plate and serve. Set up a DIY dessert station with a variety of your favorite dippers. Let your imagination run wild! See below for some of my favorites.

Variations

A really simple way to add a twist to this recipe is to use a substitute for the chocolate chips. You can use chopped nuts, mini M&Ms, peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, mini peanut butter cups, Reese’s Pieces, or another favorite.

Serving Suggestions

  • Fresh fruit – Strawberries and apple slices are perfect dippers for this brownie dip!
  • Cookies – Crisp cookies like shortbread, vanilla wafers, graham crackers, chocolate chip cookies, animal crackers, and waffle cookies
  • Pretzels – For a sweet and salty combo
  • Cinnamon-sugar pita chips – For a bit of crunch and spice
  • Marshmallows – Soft, pillowy marshmallows are great for dipping!
  • Brownie bites – For those of you who believe chocolate goes best with even more chocolate

How to Store

Place your brownie batter dip in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator. It should keep up to 5 days. Let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes to soften before serving.

Can Brownie Batter Dip Be Frozen?

You can freeze this dessert dip, although the texture may be a bit grainy after thawing. Place in an airtight, freezer-safe container. Add a layer of plastic wrap directly on top of the dip before sealing. Properly stored, it should keep up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, and stir before serving.
