Hi! I’m Jennifer, the baker, writer, photographer, and recipe developer behind Bake or Break.

I’ve been baking most of my life, but I really found my passion for it in my early adult years. I started Bake or Break back in 2006 as a way to share what I was baking, and in 2011, it became my full-time job.

Since then, I’ve developed hundreds of from-scratch recipes for everything from everyday cookies to celebration-worthy cakes. Whether you’re a beginner or a confident home baker, my goal is to help you bake something simple, satisfying, and completely worth the effort.

My Background

I’m a self-taught baker with a science background and a degree in pharmacy. That scientific mindset has definitely shaped how I test and write recipes—always with a focus on clarity, reliability, and repeatable results.

My Baking Style

I believe great baking doesn’t need to be complicated. I focus on:

  • From-scratch recipes that are approachable and doable
  • Classic flavors with just enough of a twist
  • Tested techniques that help you feel confident in the kitchen

Behind the Blog

I live and bake in Brooklyn, NY, where I work from home with my husband Quinn and our cats (who love the smell of freshly unwrapped butter). When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll usually find me reading, playing board games, watching baseball, or working behind the scenes on content planning and SEO (nerdy, but I love it).

A Few of My Favorite Recipes

After nearly two decades of baking for this blog, it’s hard to choose favorites, but these are the ones I turn to again and again. They’re the kind of recipes that feel like home, whether I’m baking for a celebration or just craving something sweet.

  • Yellow Cake with Chocolate Frosting – A classic birthday cake combo that never goes out of style. Simple, nostalgic, and always a hit.
  • Buckeye Brownies – Fudgy brownies layered with creamy peanut butter and a chocolate topping. Pure indulgence with my favorite flavor combination.
  • Ricotta Cake – Soft and subtly sweet, this easy cake feels just a little bit elegant with minimal effort.
  • Blueberry Coffee Cake Muffins – Packed with berries and topped with a buttery crumb, they’re my idea of a perfect anytime treat.
  • Sour Cream Cookies – Soft, pillowy, and wonderfully old-fashioned. These cookies are comfort in every bite.
  • Classic Chess Pie – A Southern staple with a rich, custardy filling. Simple ingredients, big payoff
