In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Add the buttermilk and stir until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
Pour the melted butter into an 8” x 8” square baking dish. Transfer the dough to the pan, spreading it out evenly all the way to the edges. Score the dough into 9 squares using a sharp knife or a bench scraper.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
