3-ingredient shortbread cookies

These simple, buttery cookies are a breeze to make. They're perfect for cookie swaps, homemade gifts, or just because!

You'll only need three ingredients to make these cookies: butter, sugar, and flour! For a splash of color, add sprinkles to the tops of the cookies before baking.

Step 1. Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 2. Then, mix in the flour until a loose dough forms.

Step 3. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface, and gather into a disc. Wrap well and refrigerate for an hour.

Step 4. Roll out the chilled dough, and cut out the cookies. Place them on lined baking sheets.

Step 5.  If you like, add sprinkles to the top of each cookie.

Step 6.  Bake at 350°F for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool briefly on the pan, and then transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

This easy dough can also be made into drop cookies or baked in a square pan and cut into bars.
